Intentions have been cast and I have a plan to propel, balance and sustain my own creative career. Coupled with measurable goals and milestones, daily studio practice is vital because I’m following the “do what you love and the money will follow” mantra for the time being. I’m freeing myself of a financial-gain mindset because that has soured my experience in artrepreneurship and stunted growth in the past + I don’t want to over stimulate and get anxious about something that hasn’t happened yet. I feel good about working hard at something I love to do; I’m excited to be a part of art festivals again come Spring 2020 which marks 5 years too long out of the game! I want to collaborate on creative projects with members of my community. Excuses, comparisons and fear are not my friends. Anybody doing anything they love has checked fear at the door and that’s what I intend to do with every stroke I share. I am grateful for so many beautiful people who share the good and the bad on what it is to believe in something so deeply and show up for it everyday. I’m abundantly inspired by all of it.
Lost wax Azabache Amulet
I wanted to make an Azabache amulet- a symbol in Puerto Rican culture to fight off evil energy- and make a necklace with it. I took a lost wax class at Tyler and made the idea a reality in 2017. I used my right hand (which is my dominant hand) as my reference. The whole thing was carved by memory and instinct. I’m proud of that since I didn’t have any previous experience with the tools and materials available to me and as soon as I looked at that cube of wax my 2D sketch was not telling of a 3D object AT ALL. It was so challenging, in the best way. I was really into this project and it’s about time I make a run of them.
